Operator” is a lipsync montage and tribute to the legendary John Epperson/Lipsinka.

Spear injects modern references, such as internet memes and pop songs, alongside older ones with a common theme of separation and longing. For many years, Lipsync has enabled Spear to explore movement in his performance work.

Meet The Artist

Josh is a proud member of the experimental music composer-performer group Bastard Assignments who present his own work at their own London gigs and have been supported by ACE, PRSF and the British Council on tours to Munich, Berlin and Chicago. They enjoyed a two-year residency at Snape Maltings and have performed at a number of festivals including LCMF, HCMF, Spor and Aldeburgh. Josh is particularly interested in collaboration and interdisciplinarity. He is a TCL Fellow, recipient of the Jerwood Charitable Trust Microbursary and participant in Choreodrome at The Place. In 2021 he was commissioned by Hellerau Dresden and Schaubühne Lindenfels Leipzig to create the lipsync web series "ComposerGENAU!" with John Moran. He recently received his doctorate in artistic research from the Norwegian Academy of Music.
